TATOU TSUNEISHI

A new headquarters hub for TSUNEISHI GROUP (based in Fukuyama, Hiroshima), a shipping-centered conglomerate, consolidating ten group companies previously scattered across Tokyo.

More than a simple office consolidation, the space houses work areas for ten Tokyo-based companies — including TSUNEISHI GROUP, KAMBARA KISEN, and TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING— alongside a flexible “margin” space that transforms for lectures, talk sessions, and signing ceremonies, open to employees and outside visitors alike. The TATOU LIBRARY, curated by book director Yoshitaka Haba across 15 genres, completes the program.

The design draws on the Seto Inland Sea — the group’s founding waters and a landscape of scattered islands — incorporating Japanese architectural elements such as washi paper, shoji screens, plasterwork, and lattice. Industrial textures are layered against reflections of water, fusing the group’s dual identity of “sea” and “industry” into a single space. Interoffice supported the furniture procurement in line with the concept set by ULTRA STUDIO, the architecture firm behind the design.
